08 plate transits, ldv maxus vans
The first couple of weeks in March saw the delivery of our new 08 plate ford transits. Still the class leader, these new vans drive better than many a car. Particularly if they are fitted with a full bulkhead, the quiet, the comfort and ease of operation all commend the designers.
The supply of transits has been limited for the past year, partly because the assembly lines had to be redesigned, but also because of their own success in selling them worldwide.
All the major manufacturers seemed to produce new models at the same time, but ldv, with their new maxus vans range, which is lightyears ahead of their Convoy range, (designed shortly before the model T Ford), stole something of a march on the opposition by coming on stream first. By no means a bad product, these vehicles have been well thought out, and the chassis cabs in particular, have the best carrying capacities in the class for our antiquated laws. We run the panel vans already, and hope to receive our first examples of the chassis cab variants before too long.
UPDATE: chassis cab variants are now on fleet, and are proving popular and reliable.
FURTHER UPDATE: What a shame! Word used advisedly) Another British manufacturer falls into foreign hands and in spite of producing a good product, again appears to have been asset stripped to destruction. When will we ever learn?
